A Life Examined is a Brooklyn-based documentary company founded by Nathaniel Alexander and Federico Torrado Tobón, two longtime friends and creative partners who met while completing their Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production at the University of Southern California in 2014.
We create personalized, made-to-order documentaries that celebrate the lives of parents, loved ones, and chosen family. Each film is crafted with warmth and care, capturing memories, stories, and the quiet moments that define a life.
Every film begins with a conversation, where we get to know the subject and discuss which parts of their life they’d like to highlight. Together, we shape the story — from selecting meaningful questions to choosing where we film and what parts of their world to include, like a cherished hobby, a family recipe, or a walk through old photos.
